What a wonderful life!

We are enjoying our new family member and ourselves very much here in Mumbai.
Erik is doing well. He was discharged from Hiranandani hospital after 72 hours. He has mild jaundice and got a whole night of light therapy. He is 100% on breastmilk, at least until today, allthough I have a can of formula with me from the hospital, just in case I would see that I have not enough for him. But he makes beautiful little yellow poo's and passes urine regularly, hence the NAN-jar is yet unopened. :)

The hospital and it's staff were fantastic - doctors, nurses, everybody. Our room was beautiful, with marble floors and great standard. We were very pampered, somebody knocking on our door almoust to often - was it room service bringing food, staff cleaning floors 3 times per day or nurses and doctors visiting. Only thing that almost made me angry was their routine making patient's (=my) bed with new sheets every day at 6 AM. Well, I'm not a morning person, I must admit. Add a newborn into my arms, I was tired enough to wish I could had locked my door and not let them in.

Another surprise was the DNA test which we had done on January 4th. Both me and Agne thought that it would be done very fast and easy. Instead, to our great surprise, it took 30 minutes for each of us. Imagine Erik's reaction when he had to have a stick moving around in his mouth all this time. My heart was breaking when I heard him crying over this.

Yesterday we all arrived to the beautiful Lakeside by Marriott. Wow, what an oasis this is.

Breakfast was so beautiful and delicious. Jennifer enjoyed very much the playgroup she attended today (weekdays 9AM-12:30PM). The playroom is great and we all had good time there.

Our apartment is nice. All our suitcases have been stuffed into wardrobes so it looks really cosy. I also made our first "home-made" meal this evening.
I long very much to see N and her family. Her parents seemed so symphatic and kind, just like N herself. I hope she will like and appreciate our gift to her aswell. It seems so little compared to what she has done for us. She gave us a new life, she made our family complete.

  8. Dear Anu,

What a great blog with some very cute pictures. We are two Danish anthropology students from Copenhagen University who are about to write our master thesis on transnational surrogacy - in particular the use of Indian surrogate mothers by Scandinavian couples. We hope our project will help put into focus the topic and broaden the knowledge of it. Our intention is to collect stories about what it’s like to have one’s child born by a surrogate mother, and what kind of thoughts and emotions that might arise during this process. At the moment we are in search of couples who contemplate engaging in or have already engaged in the process of surrogacy. We therefore post this message to ask if you would like to participate in the project and share you story with us? If so, please contact us by writing to maria_holten@hotmail.com - then we can provide you with some more details on the content of the project.

We hope to hear from you!

    Best regards,

    Lærke and Maria
